Taa-dah! Temporary New Look

April 14, 2009 By: Rebeca Category: Housekeeping

After having a near nervous breakdown last night about changing the look of the site and screwing it up, this morning I found a similar template that temporarily serves my purposes. However, I still have issues with Blogger.

After complaining about it to the husband and explaining what I wanted, he said he would pay for one year’s hosting so I can have a professional looking site with WordPress. This is my birthday present. I know, he got off cheap. But if I hadn’t asked for that I probably would have gotten a book or two or a new pair of yoga pants.

In any case, I’ve reached a point that surviving another year in relatively good health, having food on the table, a roof over my head, and of course reading a great book, makes me happy. I really don’t want much. Well, a new pair of yoga pants would be nice.

  1. What a great gift! Can’t wait to see it. I was fooling around on WordPress last week, toying with the idea of leaving Blogger. I set up a page and now I’m still mulling over the whole idea…

I like the three panel! :)

  3. I have a 3 column layout too and was battling with header links this morning. Blogger can be a bit of a pain sometimes.

When does the new site go up? Not that I’m impatient or anything like that. But I can hardly wait.

Thanks for your comments. Mary, it is a great gift. Greg knows how much I like playing around with new software platforms and with designing layouts. I probably should have been a software engineer/graphic designer!

Maggie, what I really wanted were tabs so I can separate pages for the review policy, contact info, and all the directory information, but I couldn't find anything and some downloads were XMLs and for some reason I can't open those files.

Ti, Blogger is a &%$#! in the neck. If I want my formatting to be consistent. I have to type every thing in Notepad and then copy and paste it. Plus, I really would like more variety in fonts types.

    Randy,

I’m setting up the new host tomorrow and I have to go through some domain name transfer from Blogger to the new host. Then I have to choose the new template. Fingers crossed that I don’t go completely batty when I transfer everything over.

I’m hoping that the weather is nice this weekend because I plan a photo shoot with books and beach, which I hope to use as part of the main header.

  7. Hey…just responding to the post you made regarding my book review policy. You asked about the template. Not sure if you meant the template for the policy or the blog itself.

The template for the blog is Rounders 3 and it’s modified for the 3 columns. The policy was not modeled after anything. I just kept a running list of the items that were important to me and finally posted them.

I think it’s good to have one if you accept a lot of review copies. Cheers!

Hi Rebeca (hi, Ti!) Going from Blogger to WordPress is a good idea. I switched up a couple months ago, and it's like going from B&W to color TV. Better looking templates on WordP, and the font situation – which just was unbearable on Blogger – is none on WP. With WP there are no such font or alignment issues.
Again, think it's a good move, but don't tell this on Twitter. Reason? The very same guys who started Twitter also invented Blogger!

Like your color scheme here, I must say. Best,

… and, oddly enough, just found page for WP themes on Twitter this very morning, Rebeca. Maybe helpful to you. Called ’41 free Word Press themes.’ (http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/41-great-looking-free-wordpress-themes/) All the best,
