Weekly Reads
I’m getting little better at completing my reading goals. I managed to complete:
- Spain Again, by Alvah Bessie
- A Spy by Nature, by Charles Cumming
Still working on:
- A World I Never Made, by James LePore
Since it is Alvah Bessie Month this week’s books include:
- The UnAmericans, by Alvah Bessie
- Men in Battle, by Alvah Bessie
- The Spanish Civil War: A Very Short Introduction, by Helen Graham
I’m still behind on reviews, but Lush Life and A Spy by Nature will be posted later this week.

Rebeca Schiller is the editor of Alvah's Books. She reviews literary fiction and non-fiction.
Way to go on your reading goals. It’s the highlight of my day when that happens to me.
1Have a good reading week!
2I’m still reading last week’s books.
3Happy reading!
The library system around here (central California, which is the buckle of the Bible Belt) does not have ANY books by Alvah Bessie. I am shocked and dismayed and disappointed.
4Bible belt, huh? They might have a ban on Alvah’s books. After all, he was a black-listed Athiest Red. Try looking on Alibris and Abe Books. That’s where I found mine.
